Frequent Questions

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions.

What are your shipping and return policies?

You can find our shipping and return policies here.

What size room will the heater warm?

ECO-heater will heat an average room of about 120-200 square feet of floor area (depending on construction integrity). This estimate will vary depending on the combinations of factors such as climate, room insulation, number of windows, floor coverings and ceiling height. You can add as many heaters as you like to heat any size room, home or office, turning the heaters into an inexpensive and economical heating system.

How economical is it to run the heater?

It is the most economical heater on the market today. Because the heater is of such a low wattage, only 400 Watts, the cost is approximately 3 1/2 cents per hour.

Is the heater safe for my children, elderly guests or pets?

YES! The ECO-heater has no exposed elements and has a surface temperature of about 170 degrees Fahrenheit. However, an infant or baby should not be left unattended as prolonged contact with the surface may result in injury. Additionally, since the ECO-heater does not sit in the middle of the floor [it is wall mounted], it is not a trip hazard, either.

Does the heater provide a healthier living environment?

YES! ECO-heaters eliminate the usual dust disturbances that cause problems for allergy sufferers because a fan is not used to circulate the air. Additionally the air is not dried out because of the heater’s low wattage and no exposed elements.

What type of heater is an ECO-heater?

A high efficiency convection heater. Unlike a central heating system or portable fan heaters that force air circulation, ECO-heaters use convection heating, which creates natural circulation of warm air within a room. An air gap is created when the heater is mounted to a wall. Cold air is drawn (inducted) into the air gap between the heater and the wall, then heated and rises out of the top of the heater. It is this natural convection technology that allows ECO-heaters to be more efficient, effective and safer than radiator, fan, ceramic, gas and other types of heaters.

How reliable is the heater?

ECO-heaters are constructed in such a way that they can be left on indefinitely. The heating elements are completely encapsulated within the panel and not exposed to the air. This means that dust will not collect on the heating wires and eventually cause a burnout, as is the case with many other types of heaters. Additionally, ECO-heaters do not need a fan, which is a high failure item on other heaters that use a fan to blow hot air into a room.

Can you use ECO-heater in a bathroom?

Currently Underwriter Laboratories (UL) does not recommend using plug-in heaters in bathrooms. However, we know of many consumers who do install them in their bathrooms successfully.

How is the unit turned on/off and how is the temperature controlled?

The new model T400U has an integrated digital thermostat.

The NA400S/C400S are controlled by an On/Off switch. An optional Digital Thermostat and Timer can be purchased for the NA400S/C400S from www.evergreenheaters.com (Model DTT15P).

Where and what type of surfaces can ECO heaters be mounted to?

ECO-heaters can be mounted on almost all types of wall materials including wood, drywall, plywood, and cement. We do not recommend mounting them over vinyl wall coverings.

Can ECO-heaters be used to keep pipes from freezing?

Typically, ECO-heaters would be perfect in generating sufficient heat so pipes won’t freeze. However, we cannot guarantee an ECO-heater will provide enough heat to meet your needs without testing the specific space.

How long will it take to heat my room?

It will take approximately 15 minutes to reach its maximum surface temperature and approximately 45 minutes to heat your room.

How much warmer I can expect the room to get?

You can expect an ECO-heater to raise the temperature in a well insulated 120-200 square foot room approximately 10-15 degrees. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the efficiency (i.e., windows, insulation, ceiling height, installation of unit, interior or exterior walls or a closed room).

Can the ECO-heater be hardwired?

Yes, ECO-heaters can be hardwired. Because of the different local electrical codes, we no longer furnish hardwiring instructions. Please contact a electrician in your area to make sure that local electrical codes permit hardwiring and any permits/inspections are conducted according to local ordinances.

Does the unit have a fan/how does it work?

The units do not have a fan. As advertised:

Using convection technology, heat is mainly generated behind the heater in the space between the panel and the wall, which leads to an efficient up-draft of heat circulated into the room. This principle of convection means that about 90% of the heat comes from the back of the panel, while only 10% is radiated from the front of the panel. This form of “background” heating is not only very economic, but also safe and efficient.

For installation, what should the clearance be above the unit?

Sorry, there is no exact number that we can give regarding the clearance above the unit. The most critical number is the location above the floor. We recommend the unit be installed 4 to 20 inches above the floor, with 8 inches above the floor being the optimal height depending on the baseboard trim height. The unit loses effectiveness when it is installed any higher than 20 inches above the floor. If you still have concerns regarding the placement of the unit, please Contact Us.

Can the unit be used to heat a (stationary) trailer?

If your trailer is permanently parked, this heater can be used. Typically, the heater raises the temperature of a well-insulated room approximately 10 to 15 degrees. Your results may vary based on how well your trailer is insulated.

Will birds be safe with the ECO-heater near their cage?

We do not have enough expertise in this area to guarantee the safety of your birds however the units are currently being used in chicken coops with much success. For further research, you can view www.shopthecoop.com.

What type of plug the units have?

The plug is a 2-prong plug.

Is installation difficult?

ECO-heaters are designed to be quickly and easily installed following the instructions given with every panel and using the mounting kit provided. Installation time is less than 10 minutes per panel.

  • Use the holes provided in the lightweight polystyrene packing OR the heater itself as a template to mark the position of the four holes on the wall (ensuring that the template is level) and then drill the holes using an 8mm masonry drill bit.
  • For best results, ECO-heater wall panel heaters should be mounted approximately 150mm (6 inches) above floor/skirting board and away from windows and doors.
  • The panel should be installed with a 3/4-inch gap between the wall and the unit.

Please Contact Us if you need additional information.

How many BTU’s or Watts does the unit put out?

BTU’s are a conversion of Watts. So 400 Watts converts to 1366 BTU’s.

Can the unit be installed over wood cabinets with enamel paint?

We do not recommend installing the unit over oil enamel as we do not recommend painting the unit with oil enamel paint either. We recommend using a good quality water based Latex paint.

ECO-heaters can be mounted on almost all types of wall materials including wood, drywall, plywood, and cement.

Can the ECO-heater be used to heat a house as a primary heat source?

Typically, ECO-heaters are used for supplemental heat rather than as a replacement for a whole home heating system.

While we cannot determine if heating your house with ECO-heaters would be sufficient heat since we are unaware of what your heating needs are. Factors such as: where you live, how large your house is, what is the expected temperature you want the house to be would all play a part in this answer.

You can expect an ECO-heater to raise the temperature in a well insulated 120-200 square foot room approximately 10-15 degrees. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the efficiency (i.e., windows, insulation, ceiling height, installation of unit, closed room).

How close should furniture or objects be to the ECO-heater?

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) recommends keeping all combustible materials 3 (three) feet away from space heaters.

Will the heater match my room décor?

Yes, ECO-heaters can be designed to blend in with any environment. You can paint them to match the exact color on your wall or contrast for decorative effect using a good quality water-based paint.

What makes ECO-heater an efficient use of electricity?

Efficiency is determined by how well a heater works for the amount of electricity it uses. ECO-heaters use less electricity than any other heater on the market for a given area. They draw in cold air from the floor of the room and then circulate the air for free. Using added electricity to force the hot air around a room (using a fan) would be inefficient. Also, ECO-heaters are constructed from an inert material which heats up and eventually becomes an added heat source.

Can the cord can be stored behind the unit?

The cord can be stored on the side of the unit but should not be stored across the middle of the heater as it could block the airflow behind the heater and could heat up to an unsafe temperature.

What are the units made from?

ECO-heaters are made out of ceramic.

What heater models are currently available?

NA400S/C400S – same panel, different packaging

T400U – Integrated thermostat

Can the unit be installed sideways, upside down or at an angle?

ECO-heaters can be installed sideways, upside down and at up to a 45 degree angle. Just be certain to install the heater approximately 4 to 20 inches above the floor with the optimum height of 8 inches from the floor depending on the height of the baseboard trim height. Also, do not allow the cord to drape across the back of the unit as this may block the flow of air behind the unit. The ECO-heater
